Prelim Flatplans

The cover page displays a college student in front of the Darlington Town Clock. The figure is not central to the page, but rather on the lefthand side of the Clock. I positioned him here as I wanted to expose much of the clock tower and attractive architecture. Eye contact with the character can be made, uniting him with reader, personalising the onlooker. In turn the character draws us to look at the Clock Tower, and the Tower, at a width which is similar to him, allows us to scroll our eyes up towards the Header, 'QE'. 'QE' will be in bold purple, suggesting royalty, but also for the simple reason that the college itself uses purple as a trademark colour, and it is important to maintain unity with the magazine and college.

As we find with many magazines, I intended to use layering. The Clock will be layered above the Header, not to make 'QE' unreadable, but to generate a 3-Dimensional effect, and allowing the reader to feel included in the scene. The 'Q', the Clock Face and the student's face are all circular and together from a triangle of circles, a continuum that should capture the readers attention and maximise the amount of time they fixate on the page. The Sell Lines are carefully positioned around the figure, yet on both sides are aligned perfectly, forming two horizontal lines down the page. The colours of the text will vary from Purple to Gold, again trademark of 'QE'.

Hopefully, if the photograph can be conducted correctly on 'Post House Wynd', then the shrinking buildings either side of the page ought to drag our eyes to the focus point of the clock.
I used this location as it is a common view during lunchtimes as a student in 'QE', and could be described as local.

The Contents page similarly uses alignment of images and writing. The three main sections of the magazine will be 'News', 'Boilerplate' (or miscellaneous) and 'Reviews' - although these may be changed. The images, bordered purple, will be in complete alignment with 'QE' on the top of the page. The page itself will also be bordered in deep trademark purple. The large arrow located at the top of the page will be a shade of red (making it clearly detached from the layout of the page, and signifying a different topic). The arrow head containing 'Next Page' will make it obvious that the page simply must be flicked over to reach the article.

Levitating off the page is a large Savoury. Hopefully the image will be appetising to the viewer, and its large oval shape also will be an attracion. 'WEDNESDAY IS SAVOURY DAY' Will surround the sandwich, drawing our eyes to it.
Altogether this page should be easy to translate and navigate for the reader, and I have attempted to include as much as possible here without over-crowding and cluttering the contents.
